Meindl's best selling shoe, the Respond GTX has velour leather and mesh uppers with Gore-Tex lining so your feet will stay nice and dry. With a cupped heel stabiliser this shoe is a sturdy performer on the trails and its toe protector will keep you safe from any knocks. It’s a great choice when the extra support of a boot isn’t required. Meindl use their Contagrip Trail sole unit providing optimum grip and an Air Active footbed that acts as a shock absorber whilst allowing your feet to breathe.

  • Upper - Velour Leather/Mesh

Conditioning and proofing spray keeps nubuck leather and suede protected. The boots can be treated when the uppers aren’t quite dry – it ensures they’ll remain supple. Applying a little wax to the hooks and eyelets will protect them from corrosion.

Caring for Fabric & Suede Footwear

Caring for Fabric & Suede Footwear

Like other leathers, suede needs treating regularly with a leather conditioning spray to maintain water repellancy and help prevent the suede from drying out and cracking. It is also important to treat fabric footwear to help prevent it from absorbing water and 'wicking' it into the boots.

Meindl's Conditioner and Proofer spray or Grangers Footwear Repel Plus Spray is ideal. The solution will soak into the fabric and help prevent the fabric from absorbing water. When used on suede, the sprays will also condition and nourish the suede.

It can sometimes help to apply the spray while the suede is slightly damp as the solution can penetrate into the leather more easily. Allow to dry naturally away from sources of heat.

Proper maintenance and care is a requirement of the manufacturers warranty.

Stitching fails

I bought my first pair of Respond GTX shoes several years ago. They were very comfortable and lasted me for many years until eventually the waterproofing broke down. I then ordered another pair from Hill & Dale, but they started letting in water within a few months. I returned them and was given a refund after the shoes were returned to Meindle and found to be defective. I bought a replacement pair from Go Outdoors local to me, but within 6 months these too were leaking. The issue seems to that the toe cap stitching fails on both the left and right sides, at the point where the shoe flexes when walking. I took them back and was given a replacement pair. It's been less than a year and yet again the stitching has failed, in the same place. I am contemplating either taking them back again, or switching to another shoe.

Stitching comes away & sole wears quickly

I have hd a few pairs of these and i find them very comfortable for walking in. The stitching seems to come away at the top on each side of the foot. I find the sole wears more quicklythan other walking / trail shoes. A comfortable shoe but not worth the money with these issues
