The Mondello GTX walking shoe is part of Meindl's Comfort Fit range. Wider in the fore foot giving more room for the toes, it has a firm, shaped hold at the heel for a secure fit. The shoe is designed with walking on low level paths and trails in mind, and features extended lacing down to the toe for a fully adjustable fit. A high rubber toe bumper ensures protection for the foot and the shoe's upper, whilst the GORE-TEX lining provides waterproofing.

Mondello GTX walking shoe feature guide:
* Suede and mesh uppers
* GORE-TEX lining
* Air Active wellness sport footbed
* Meindl Multi trail comfort sole
* Waterproof protection

Comfort Fit Range. Wider fit than the standard Meindl fit. Nubuck leather uppers with Gore-Tex lining. Meindl Comfort Sport sole unit with optimum heel-to-toe motion. Air Active Wellness Sport footbed for added comfort Meindl Rating: M - Multi Activity - 410g

 Conditioning and proofing spray keeps nubuck leather and suede protected. The boots can be treated when the uppers aren’t quite dry – it ensures they’ll remain supple. Applying a little wax to the hooks and eyelets will protect them from corrosion

The Mondello shoes are just as good as the excellent Mondello boots

Comfortable walking shoes

On first examination I first thought these shoes looked rather pointed and not as wide fitting as boots. I am rather pleased to say I was wrong on both points. They are good looking comfortable shoes and once wearing them you forget that you are. I will certainly get some replacements in the future when required, but I don't think that will be too soon. Great service from Hill and Dale, thanks folks.

great all-weather trail shoe

I actually use these for mountain biking - they are great in all weathers and are extremeley comfortable (especially with my wider feet - they have a wide/big toe box). Hill & Dale, as always, service was impecible.

Meindl quality appears to be slipping

I've purchased Meindl shoes and boots for the past 20 years and never had any issues with fit or quality. I have worn out 5 pairs of Meindl Portland shoes and have been very happy with them, but these are now very difficult to source in the UK. However, the last two pairs of Meindl approach shoes purchased (Ontario and Mondello) have been less good. The Ontario are a vey tight width fit and sole stiffness is poor such that these are only now used for walking on flat, smooth surfaces. The Mondello shoes seem to be slightly different sizes in terms of length fit, in that the left shoe fits perfectly, but the right shoe is slightly larger and rubs my heel to the point of pain when walking for prolonged periods uphill (both shoes are marked with the same size fitting). I have never had this issue before with Meindl shoes or boots (or any other everyday shoes), so I'm pretty sure that I don't have different sized feet. The Mondello soles are extremly stiff and good on rough terrain, but can be a bit uncomfortable on flatter terrain. The Vibram sole is a big improvement on Portland and Ontario soles - particularly on slippery or muddy decents. Service and prices from Hill and Dale are as always excellent.
